Initiated by ORLEN, the Baltic Energy Initiative is intended to become a new regional platform for cooperation among energy companies from the Baltic Sea countries. Its aim is to create a common business voice towards the institutions of the European Union, strengthen cooperation in areas related to the energy transition and regional security, and give the Baltic Sea a stronger role in the European energy debate.

The initiative is inspired by cooperation platforms already operating in other parts of Europe, such as the North Sea Wind Power Hub or the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l'Energie. By bringing together leading energy companies and infrastructure operators, the Baltic Energy Initiative can help translate the region’s potential into joint projects, coordinated advocacy, knowledge exchange, and stronger access to European funding.

One of the priority areas for cooperation will be the protection of critical energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, including subsea cables, gas pipelines, offshore wind farms, ports, and grid connections. Growing risks to offshore and cross-border assets require closer cooperation beyond national borders and a shared approach to resilience and security.

The initiative may also support common positions on offshore wind, maritime energy infrastructure, SMR technologies, hydrogen, interconnectors, grid resilience, energy storage, and the integration of regional energy markets. As Europe accelerates its energy transition and strengthens its strategic autonomy, cooperation among companies from the Baltic Sea region can help deliver a secure, integrated, and future-ready energy system.

ORLEN’s role is to initiate the cooperation and encourage market participants to take ownership of its further development, so that the Baltic Energy Initiative can function as an independent regional platform. This is particularly important in the context of ORLEN’s offshore investments, including the Baltic Power offshore wind farm developed together with Northland Power.

The Baltic Energy Conference will bring together leaders, decision-makers, experts, and stakeholders from across the energy value chain to discuss how regional cooperation can translate into concrete projects, investment opportunities, and stronger representation at the European level.
