The Future of Smart Energy Management in Europe

REGISTER HERE

Smart energy management sits at the heart of Europe’s green and digital transition. As buildings account for around 40% of energy consumption in the EU, smart energy management in the built environment is one of the most powerful levers for reducing emissions, strengthening energy independence, and delivering real savings for citizens and businesses. This policy event explores how the KNX system is helping to turn EU ambitions for smart energy management into practical, scalable solutions—across Europe and beyond.

KNX is the world’s leading open standard for building automation and control, enabling intelligent management of lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, shading, and energy use. By allowing different devices and manufacturers to communicate seamlessly, KNX optimises energy consumption at building level while maintaining high levels of comfort, safety, and performance. From residential buildings to large commercial and public infrastructure, KNX-based solutions are already delivering measurable reductions in energy demand and peak loads.

A core strength of the KNX system lies in its open-standard architecture. Openness ensures interoperability, avoids vendor lock-in, and maximises flexibility for building owners, installers, and occupants alike. It enables highly personalised solutions that can adapt to user needs, building types, and local energy systems—while remaining future-proof as technologies evolve. This flexibility is essential for retrofitting Europe’s existing building stock as well as for designing next-generation smart buildings.

KNX’s objectives closely align with EU policy priorities. By supporting energy efficiency and smart energy management, KNX contributes directly to the Green Deal and REPowerEU goals. Its decentralised, interoperable approach strengthens digital sovereignty, enhances cybersecurity through robust system design, and supports a competitive European ecosystem of manufacturers and innovators.

This event will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts to discuss how open standards like KNX can accelerate Europe’s transition to a more energy-efficient, resilient, and digitally sovereign built environment—setting a benchmark for global action.
