The mandate of the newly formed European Commission seems very clear – outlining a strategy to regain Europe’s competitive edge, while pursuing its role as global leader in the climate objectives.

Last year, the newly re-elected European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen charged two reports to investigate on the statute – and future - of the economic path for the European Union. Enrico Letta’s study, analysing the EU’s internal market potential, and Mario Draghi’s report bringing more than 170 concrete proposals to boost the European industrial competitiveness in the global arena.

In this context, decarbonization can play a major role in revamping the European economy, by reducing energy costs in a wide range of industries.

On December 9th, Enel will unveil the results of the study carried out by Enel Foundation and Compass Lexecon, and in collaboration with ERCST, on the potential of direct and indirect electrification in the European industrial sectors. It will serve as a major enabler for the recommendations that the Commission will deliver in its first 100 days, such as the famously announced Clean Industrial Deal and Industrial Decarbonization Accelerator Act.
