In the current context of increased environmental disasters and climate issues, the question of how to achieve food security and a balanced relationship between the environment, farmers and consumers is more and more pressing.
The Global Food Security Index (GFSI), developed by Economist Impact and sponsored by Corteva Agriscience, considers the core issues of affordability, availability, quality and safety across 113 developing and developed countries by measuring 59 unique indicators of food security. Since 2012, the GFSI has collected year-on-year data, examining food security comprehensively, using a dynamic model that looks beyond hunger to identify the underlying factors affecting food insecurity. It now includes adjustment factors based on natural resources and resilience.
GFSI has become an invaluable tool, serving as an important benchmark for policymakers.
The following episode from the BBC series "Follow the Food" provides background information on the topic of global food security: www.bbc.com/future/bespoke/follow-the-food/the-race-to-improve-food-security/
