Food for Thought - How can we reshape our food systems for a sustainable future?

The Farm to Fork Strategy is at the heart of the Green Deal, addressing the challenges associated with establishing sustainable food systems. It aims to make food systems fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly.
Food systems are significant contributors to climate change and environmental degradation. Many agrifood stakeholders believe there is an urgent need to reduce dependency on pesticides and antimicrobials, reduce excess fertilisation, increase organic farming, improve animal welfare, and reverse biodiversity loss.
According to the European Commission, there are currently 33 million people in the EU who cannot afford a nutritious meal every other day. This suggests food assistance is essential. Creating a supportive food environment that promotes healthy and sustainable diets will benefit consumers’ health and quality of life, and reduce health-related costs for society.
One of the flagship initiatives of the Farm to Fork Strategy is the proposed legislative framework for sustainable food systems (FSFS). This framework, set to be adopted by the Commission before the end of 2023, aims to accelerate and simplify the transition towards sustainable food systems.
Join this EURACTIV Virtual Conference to explore the EU's Farm to Fork Strategy and discuss what lies ahead for the future of food and sustainable food systems. Does the EU's Farm to Fork Strategy go far enough? What elements should be included in the proposed legislative framework for sustainable food systems (FSFS) to accelerate the transition towards sustainable food systems?
