Europe is entering an important phase in the debate over technology sovereignty. As the European Union seeks to strengthen its security, economic resilience, and AI competitiveness, policymakers are considering how Europe can exercise greater control over critical technologies, infrastructure, and data. At the same time, cloud computing, AI, and other advanced technologies are increasingly global in their development and deployment, making openness, competition, and international partnerships crucial components of Europe’s ability to innovate and scale.
Sovereignty Through Partnership: Trusted Technology in an Interconnected World will take place in Brussels at a pivotal moment for this debate. The event will bring together EU policymakers, industry leaders, and top experts to examine how Europe can pursue legitimate technology sovereignty objectives while maintaining access to the global technologies, investment, and partnerships that support European growth and innovation.
The discussion will explore what technology sovereignty should deliver in practice for European governments, businesses, and citizens, including meaningful control over technologies and data, greater operational resilience, and genuine choice. Participants will also consider what should make a technology provider a trusted partner, and whether trust can be assessed through objective, risk-based criteria such as cybersecurity, transparency, accountability, and resilience rather than the geographic origin of a provider.
