Ever since his election 3 years ago, President Macron has been a vocal champion of the European project. The French government has consistently called for solidarity among the Member States and has revived the traditional French-German stewardship, which brings new potential in the light of Brexit.

President Macron and Chancellor Merkel are strong supporters of the recovery package, echoed by the Commission's Next Generation proposal. President Macron seems optimistic about reaching an agreement in July, despite concerns from some Member States.

Join this EURACTIV 1:1 dialogue with Amélie de Montchalin, French Secretary of State for European Affairs, on July 1st as Germany takes over the Presidency of the European Council. She will discuss France's view on the state of the EU and its future. Questions will include:

- How is France positioning itself in view of its European commitments?
- What does France expect from its closest partners?
- What are the key challenges for the country as it recovers from the impact of the COVID economic crisis?
