Regulating digital services

Regulating digital services

The draft European Electronic Communication Code (EECC) aims to adapt end-user protection to the digital era and ensure that telecoms rules focus on the sector’s specific needs.

Some stakeholders fear that this regulation is too broad and risks slowing down the fast-developing Internet of Things. Is the definition of services covered by the Code too wide? Does this proposal better protect consumers?

EURACTIV organised this workshop to discuss together the future of digital services. Questions included:
- How can regulators ensure competition between Internet-based service providers and traditional telecoms companies?
- Is the Code achieving its stated goal of better protecting consumers?
- Is the European Commission regulating the Internet of Things through the code? Is its approach effective?
- How can European law-makers facilitate digital services innovation?
