18-04-2024
Registration for this event is by invitation only.
The Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) is pleased to invite you to join the event “Sustainable Health for Sustainable Growth: A Roadmap for European Policy”. The event will take place on 18 April from 12h-14h CET in the European Parliament and will be hosted by MEP Kathleen Van Brempt in the context of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
EU health systems are facing a multitude of interconnected challenges amid a shifting geopolitical landscape, ranging from budgetary pressures, healthcare workforce shortages and the rapidly escalating burden of chronic disease, compounded by an ageing population and the effects of climate change. At the same time, Europe is experiencing a drain in healthcare innovation investment, posing a threat to patient access and the EU’s life sciences competitiveness, and hinting at economic stagnation.
Recognising these pressing issues, the Belgian EU Presidency has prioritised enhancing the sustainability of health systems and healthy populations, including preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs), devising strategies to bolster the EU's healthcare workforce, and improving access to funding for health initiatives. These efforts aim to address the complex challenges facing European health systems and capitalise on key opportunities to ensure the wellbeing of its citizens in the face of evolving pressures. This event will spotlight key findings and best practices derived from evidence-based research conducted by the PHSSR in the EU and Belgium across critical healthcare domains to inform the next policy cycle.
