Fighting poverty across Europe: What’s next for FEAD?

More than 120 million people in the EU are at risk of poverty or social exclusion. The Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth aimed to bring at least 20 million people out of poverty and social exclusion by 2020.
However, due to the economic and refugee crisis, the EU member states are far from reaching that target.

In 2014, the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) was launched with the aim to support EU countries’ intention to provide material assistance to the most deprived.

After running for 3 years, the fund was up for a mid-term consultation until 5 May, allowing stakeholders to identify the necessary steps to amend implementation rules and practices in the current and next programming periods.

EURACTIV invites you to this high-level workshop to discuss the future of the FEAD. Questions will include:

- What outcomes can be expected from the mid-term evaluation and what are their effects?

- Has the FEAD helped in shifting the paradigm from the food-aid model to a social inclusion-based model?

- Should the FEAD be integrated into wider and comprehensive national anti-poverty strategies?
